The Departmental Manager oversees the Radiological Emergency Preparedness (REP) Unit within the Michigan State Police Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division’s Training and Exercise Section. The Unit supports three nuclear power plants and off-site emergency response programs for 18 counties within the 50-mile Emergency Planning Zones, and provides technical assistance to five State of Michigan counties within the 10-mile zones, as well as guidance to counties in the 50-mile zones. The REP Program aims to ensure state and local jurisdictions within 50 miles of a commercial nuclear power plant are fully prepared to respond to an incident. Preparedness is supported through planning, training, drills, exercises, and an annual certification report documenting key off-site preparedness data and results of federally evaluated exercises. This work requires coordination with nuclear plant staff, local governments, state agencies, and emergency responders. The manager oversees staff responsible for planning initiatives; drills and exercises; drafting and reviewing Standard Operating Procedures; REP-specific training and external communications; the annual Michigan REP Conference; the ingestion pathway committee; and the REP strategic plan work group. The position is expected to perform duties in a bias-free manner and support an inclusive workplace where all people are treated with dignity, fairness, and respect. Applicants must pass pre-employment screening, including a drug screen, criminal-history background check, and Michigan State Police fingerprint check. A cover letter or memo, resume, and applicable official college transcripts must be attached to the application; unofficial transcripts are not accepted.
