About The Position

The Department of Biology, Chemistry, and Chemical Engineering at Florida Polytechnic University is seeking applicants for a Departmental Laboratory Technician. This position is available to be filled immediately. The Department of Biology, Chemistry, and Chemical Engineering at Florida Polytechnic University will offer a new Biomedical Sciences degree starting in the fall of 2026. The Department supports these degrees through multiple teaching and research laboratories in both biology and chemistry. This hiring position is part of the university's strategic expansion to support this new degree program.

Requirements

B.S. in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science or a closely related field, where the degree must be complete before a candidate’s starting date.
Experience in a laboratory environment.
In lieu of a degree, any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
Excellent communication skills
Ability to train faculty and students in the use of personal protective equipment and other safety best practices
Ability to conduct thorough safety audits
Familiarity with chemical inventory management systems
Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Requires a criminal background check, which may include a Level II screening as required by Florida Statute §435.04.
Subject to federal and state privacy regulations.

Nice To Haves

Prior experience in a scientific laboratory setting.

Responsibilities

Conducting safety support for employees and students
Preparing and setting up weekly laboratory experiments
Facilitating in-class demonstrations (as necessary)
Maintaining laboratory inventories for chemistry and biology, including documenting hazardous waste use and waste disposal
Supporting outreach activities in both biology and chemistry
