About The Position

MercyOne is seeking a Department Support Assistant for the Medical Imaging department. This role performs administrative duties, greets and checks in patients and visitors, completes patient registration, and acts as a liaison for patients and their families. The position requires excellent communication skills, accuracy in data collection, and the ability to manage office supplies. The Medical Imaging department is part of MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center, Iowa's largest medical center, known for its personalized and convenient care.

Requirements

• High school diploma preferred or high school equivalency.
• Typing ability and basic computer skills.
• Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training for child and dependent adult abuse within three (3) months of hire.

Nice To Haves

• One-year administrative experience preferred.
• Medical terminology preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs administrative duties for the department.
• Greets patients and visitors.
• Checks in each patient and announces arrival to the appropriate area of the hospital.
• Completes patient registration as needed.
• Operates PC, fax machine, copy machine and other office equipment as necessary.
• Demonstrates proper phone etiquette and utilization of computers, including completion of exam, data entry, charting during procedure and prior to imaging.
• Checks surgery and imaging records for completeness and follows up with appropriate personnel to ensure records are completed.
• Collects and stickers patient charts.
• Acts as a liaison for patients and their families in the waiting room.
• Communicates appropriately with staff, physicians, and other departments with the ability to prioritize in an environment that is often hectic and subject to frequent interruptions.
• Maintains a high degree of accuracy in collecting patient demographics and insurance information from various sources.
• Escorts/transports patients as needed.
• Manages office supply inventory.
