About The Position

Are you eager to use your dental expertise to support inmate health as a Dentist with the Department of Corrections? This role gives you the chance to make a direct impact on the well-being of individuals at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Forest. This work blends diagnosis, treatment, leadership, and coordination across many daily responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an approved school of dentistry. Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within three months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
  • Possess a license to practice dentistry issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Dentistry.
  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions.
  • Must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Perform examinations, diagnose oral problems, and provide restorative and preventative treatments for inmates
  • Develop care plans, review medical histories, and ensure safe administration of anesthetics and solutions
  • Lead and oversee dental support staff, provide training, and help evaluate work performance
  • Review schedules, address patient concerns, evaluate records, and support continuous quality improvement
  • Maintain inventory, approve supply needs, and ensure proper security and control of tools and materials
  • Collaborate with physicians and specialists, assist with procedures, and refer inmates for advanced care when necessary
