About The Position

The dental hygienist performs licensed hygiene procedures, educates patients, and manages the nonsurgical periodontal program as directed by the dentist. The role includes maintaining patient care relationships, documenting health histories, providing oral health education, performing clinical hygiene services, and determining when preventive treatments are needed.

Requirements

• Dental hygiene certification from an accredited dental hygiene school.
• Current hygiene license where employed.
• Maintain annual OSHA, HIPAA, BLS, and infection control training as required by law.
• Experience with dental software.

Responsibilities

• Establish and maintain ongoing patient care relationships.
• Verify and document patient health history.
• Educate patients about oral hygiene, oral health and disease, procedures, and services offered.
• Perform clinical hygiene functions, including exposing and evaluating diagnostic X-rays, taking and recording blood pressure, adult and child prophylaxis, and nonsurgical periodontal therapy.
• Co-assess possible restorative treatments with the doctor.
• Determine patient needs and perform sealant placement, Arestin, and fluoride treatments as needed.
• Manage the nonsurgical periodontal program as directed by the dentist.
