About The Position

The Dental Director oversees daily operations, budget management, timekeeping, performance, problem resolution, and employee engagement within the Division and Department. This role involves developing and reviewing goals, policies, and procedures, with a strong emphasis on ensuring compliance with HIPAA, quality improvement programs, continuous improvement, safety, environmental, and infection control standards. The director is responsible for preparing billing records, staffing schedules, and approving timecards. They also oversee front office operations, inventory, purchasing, clinic maintenance, and the enhancement of electronic dental records and digital radiology. A key aspect of the role includes reviewing clinical concerns, participating in patient treatment (examining, diagnosing, treating, prescribing), and documenting patient care accurately. The Dental Director will also develop and present in-service and educational programs, review clinical privileges for dental staff, and serve as a clinical consultant for dental and public health matters. Collaboration with physicians, dentists, staff, and other clinical departments to promote shared decision-making is also a crucial part of this position.

Requirements

  • Doctorate degree in Dental Surgery or Dental Medicine
  • Five (5) years of experience as a practicing dentist
  • Three (3) years director experience
  • Current WI and DEA Licensure
  • Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements, IHS and Insurance payment policies, legal and ethical standards for the delivery of dental care, relevant drugs and non-pharmaceutical patient care aids, and ability to prescribe dosages and instruct patients in correct usage.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, JCAHO, AAAHC, QI standards, WI state statute, Federal, State, and institutional regulations and guidelines, and the ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.
  • Knowledge of current principles, methods and procedures for the delivery of dental evaluation, diagnosis and treatment in area of expertise, patient admission, triage, transfer, and discharge procedures and documentation.
  • Proven ability to treat patients with dignity and respect, observe, assesses, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress, foster a cooperative work environment, and supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment, exercise sound judgment in decision making, develop and present educational programs and/or workshops, analyze medical records and prescribed protocol to formulate effective therapeutic treatment plans, and communicate technical information to non-technical personnel.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in the English language, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds and with co-workers at all levels.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and possess strong customer service orientation.
  • Skill in operating business computers and office machines, including in a Windows environment, specifically Word, Excel, Access, and presentation software (such as PowerPoint).
  • Must successfully pass all applicable background checks and drug screens.
  • FCP complies with all CDC vaccine and testing recommendations for healthcare professionals. Proof of immunizations is required and immunizations/testing provided upon hire.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees daily operations, budget maintenance and preparation, timekeeping review and approval, performance, problem resolution, and employee engagement.
  • Participates in the development and review of goals and objectives of the Division and Department.
  • Develops, enforces, reviews, and revises policies and procedures as needed but no less frequently than annually.
  • Plans, implements, and enforces confidentiality, HIPAA regulations, and the departmental Quality Improvement program including continuous improvement, safety, environmental, and infection control standards, ensuring all staff follow and maintain all applicable laws and regulations for the dental industry.
  • Prepares and maintains billing records, staffing schedules, and approves timecards for payroll processing.
  • Oversees the front office, inventory, purchasing, physical clinic, cleanliness, safety, periodic equipment maintenance and minor repairs, and the continued enhancement of electronic dental records and digital radiology.
  • Reviews all clinical concerns submitted related to dental incidents or quality of care issues as presented or identified utilizing the prescribed processes.
  • Participates in patient treatment; examine, diagnose, provide consultation and treat patients, prescribing pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens as appropriate.
  • Informs the patient of diagnosis and treatment needs and options in such a way that the patient understands and can make an informed decision.
  • Completes accurate documentation of the patient’s dental diagnosis and treatment according to QI Standards and standards of care.
  • Develops, participates, and presents in-service and educational programs to staff, ensuring all personnel meet annual in-service requirements and obtain new skills.
  • Reviews and recommends clinical privileges for dental staff requiring privilege to practice.
  • Serves as a clinical consultant in the facility for dental based concerns and dental aspects of public health matters, promoting oral health care and preventative oral health care strategies.
  • Creates a framework for partnership with physicians, dentists, staff, other clinical departments, and supports and promotes shared decision making.
