Requirements

  • Currently holding an active dental license in the state.
  • Maintains current DEA number.
  • Two years of experience as a dentist, preferably in corrections.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and monitors clinical performance, documentation, and professionalism of all dental staff, including dentists, dental assistants, and dental hygienists. Including regular meetings with dental staff.
  • Complete site visits evaluating dental standards are being met.
  • Assist in maintaining dental staffing rates. Including screening, interviewing, evaluating credentials, and hiring of applicants within the dental department.
  • Monitors community standards of care for physical therapy and aligns departmental procedures with these Standards.
  • Complies, verifies, and reports on Dental Department statistics across all sites including Overdue Appointments, Dental services completed, and other reports
  • Provide dental education or teaching sessions as requested for non-dental staff.
  • Report any unusual occurrences or incidents to the site and regional leadership.
  • Performs all functions of a staff dentist including but not limited to the below items:
  • Perform and interpret radiographic exams as indicated.
  • Provide dental treatment to include emergency treatment of the teeth and surrounding soft tissues such as oral surgery, restorative dentistry and periodontal therapy within the scope of a general Dentist including extractions.
  • Correction of significant oral problems, which may adversely affect inmate’s health as, deemed necessary.
  • Make proper referrals for procedures which cannot be performed at facility. Manage and coordinate outside clinic or surgical triaging, referrals and scheduling.
  • Respond to grievances, ensuring compliance with standards and policy.
  • Attend required trainings and meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.
