Dental Assistant - El Reno - IHS
About The Position
Provide dental assistant services at the Indian Health Service (IHS) El Reno location in accordance with El Reno Service Unit facility policies and procedures and within the scope of licensure. The role primarily provides chairside assistance in general dentistry and may assist with specialized procedures, including oral surgery, prosthetics, operative dentistry, and endodontics. Duties also include patient intake and triage, digital radiography, instrument preparation and sterilization, operatory and equipment maintenance, patient-care coordination, preventive services, and directing patients and visitors.

Responsibilities
- Obtain and record vital signs and screening data in electronic dental and health records.
- Triage emergency dental patients.
- Take intraoral and extraoral (panoramic) digital radiographs and obtain diagnostic-quality images, taking additional exposures as needed.
- Provide chairside assistance, primarily for general dentistry, and assist as needed with oral surgery, prosthetics, operative dentistry, and endodontics.
- Prepare dental instruments and materials before procedures.
- Evacuate blood and secretions from the oral cavity during procedures.
- Transfer instruments to the provider during dental procedures.
- Clean and transport soiled instruments after procedures; perform pre-sterilization cleaning, package instruments, and sterilize them.
- Perform routine equipment and operatory maintenance.
- Clean the operatory and work surfaces between patients.
- Under the direction of the staff dentist, contact providers outside the facility to coordinate patient care.
- Place sealants and fluoride varnish in the dental clinic and school-based prevention programs.
- Direct patients and visitors, refer callers to appropriate staff members, and record pertinent patient or message information for accurate delivery to staff.
