About The Position

The Orthodontic Dental Assistant supports the orthodontist and clinical team in delivering high-quality patient care in a supportive, patient-centered dental office. The role calls for strong clinical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to help patients of all ages feel welcome and comfortable. The assistant helps with clinical procedures, treatment-room readiness, orthodontic records and imaging, patient education, infection control, patient flow, and supply management.

Requirements

Prior dental assisting experience.
Dental Assistant certification as required by the state.
X-ray certification as required by the state.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Detail-oriented and highly organized.
Positive, friendly, and professional demeanor.
Strong patient communication skills.
Ability to multitask and remain efficient in a busy clinical setting.
Team player with a proactive attitude.

Nice To Haves

Orthodontic experience.
Orthodontic assisting experience or certification, if applicable.
CPR/BLS certification.
Experience with dental software such as Dentrix, Ortho2, or Open Dental.

Responsibilities

Assist the orthodontist during clinical procedures.
Prepare and sterilize instruments and treatment rooms.
Take dental impressions, digital scans, and photographs.
Place and remove orthodontic appliances under doctor supervision, as permitted by state regulations.
Adjust archwires and change elastics as directed.
Take orthodontic X-rays in compliance with state guidelines.
Educate patients on oral hygiene, appliance care, and treatment expectations.
Maintain accurate patient records and clinical notes.
Ensure compliance with OSHA, HIPAA, and infection control protocols.
Support efficient patient flow and operatory turnover.
Assist with inventory management and stocking supplies.
