About The Position

Military Deli & Bakery Services is hiring part-time Deli Bakery Associates at its Little Creek NAB location in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Associates serve military personnel and their families by providing friendly customer service and supporting deli and bakery operations. The employer notes that this is not a government job and welcomes all applicants. Openings include opener, closer, and baker; the baker role requires retail baking experience. The position offers up to 29 hours per week, with a flexible schedule and shifts across the week. Some weekend shifts are required.

Requirements

• Be at least 18 years of age.
• Be willing to cross-train in bakery and deli tasks as needed.
• Have effective and friendly communication skills.
• Have basic math knowledge and the ability to follow written guidelines.
• Be able to lift up to 50 pounds, with or without accommodation.
• Be able to stand and walk short distances for an entire shift.
• Tolerate working in freezers for up to 20 minutes at a time.
• Be a team player.
• Some weekend shifts are required.

Nice To Haves

• Grocery, food service, or retail experience is a plus.
• Retail baking experience is required for the baker opening.

Responsibilities

• Maintain an enthusiastic customer-service atmosphere and communicate positively while working as part of a team.
• Assist other team members as needed.
• Slice deli meats and cheeses according to customer requests.
• Prepare custom party trays and make sandwiches.
• Stock and organize displays, including assisting with shipments.
• Maintain proper department and equipment sanitation and follow proper food-handling and preparation practices.
• Work effectively in a fast-paced environment and handle stressful situations.
• Perform other deli and bakery duties as needed, which may include cake decorating, baking, and rotisserie chicken preparation.
