About The Position

Act in lieu of the regular classroom teacher and perform the duties as assigned by the Principal/Supervisor. This role requires completing the duties and tasks of the absent teacher, preventing students from leaving the room unless absolutely necessary, checking class rolls, contacting the school nurse for medical attention, and administering medication only if authorized. The substitute teacher must notify the school office of any serious problems, assume responsibilities for students, equipment, and materials, follow lesson plans, and maintain the regular routine of the class. A summary of work covered and pertinent information should be left for the regular teacher. Classroom behavior must be managed to maintain a conducive learning environment, and administrators should be notified if additional assistance is needed. Adherence to the Substitute Teacher handbook, safety procedures, and campus guidelines is required. Punctuality, dependability, and flexibility in job assignments are essential.

Requirements

  • Teaching certification OR Bachelor’s degree OR Minimum of 60 college hours
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Speak, write, read, and comprehend English – Communicate with students, staff and others in English
  • Punctuality and dependability
  • Flexibility in the job assignment

Responsibilities

  • Complete the duties and tasks of the absent teacher.
  • Prevent students from leaving the room unless it is absolutely necessary.
  • Check the class roll at the time and in the manner designated by the campus.
  • Contact the school nurse if a student needs medical attention.
  • Notify the school office of any serious problems experienced during the day prior to leaving the campus.
  • Assume the same responsibilities as a regular classroom teacher for students, equipment, and other assigned materials.
  • Follow the lesson plans provided by the teacher as closely as practical and maintain the regular routine of the class.
  • Leave a summary of work covered in each class and other information pertinent to the teacher.
  • Manage classroom behavior to maintain an environment conducive to good learning.
  • Notify an administrator if additional assistance is needed.
  • Abide by the Substitute Teacher handbook.
  • Be flexible and willing to cover a different assignment if the campus needs.
  • Adhere to all safety procedures and guidelines of the campus.
  • Report on time, report for any assigned duty, work through the end of stated sub hours.
