About the position
Clearmatics is seeking a DeFi Protocol Engineer to join their Layer 1 Engineering team. The engineer will be responsible for designing and prototyping decentralised financial protocols on Autonity, with a focus on creating decentralised risk markets for real-world risk factors. This role will involve working on various areas such as smart derivatives, DEX trading and settlement protocols, algorithmic stabilisation, data oracles, and liquid staking. The engineer will collaborate with smart contract engineers and quantitative researchers to contribute to technical design choices, code development, and research efforts.
Responsibilities
- Design and prototype decentralised financial protocols on Autonity for creating decentralised risk markets in real-world risk factors
- Work on smart derivatives, DEX trading & settlement protocols, algorithmic stabilisation, data oracles, liquid staking, and more
- Provide clarity on technical design choices and review and contribute code and tests to a growing Solidity code base
- Collaborate with quantitative researchers to develop new models and simulations and support the research effort
Requirements
- Familiarity with Ethereum-like stack and passion for the space
- Experience in designing and prototyping decentralised financial protocols on Autonity
- Knowledge of smart derivatives, DEX trading & settlement protocols, algorithmic stabilisation, data oracles, liquid staking, etc.
- Ability to provide clarity on technical design choices and review/contribute code and tests in Solidity
- Collaboration with quantitative researchers and support in the development of new models and simulations

Benefits
- Experience running validator nodes for a proof-of-stake blockchain, commercially or as a tinkerer
- Ability to demonstrate a deep understanding of the implications of protocol changes, e.g. in the context of forks
- Experience managing and running high stake infrastructure

- Ability to reason about the economics and incentive structures of a blockchain system confidently
Nice to have:
- Experience managing validator nodes for a delegated-proof-of-stake Byzantine Fault Tolerant blockchain mainnet
- Familiarity with deploying and testing blockchain nodes in various cloud environments
- An entrepreneurial inclination
- Experience with redundant systems and distributed data storage solutions (e.g. CEPH)
- In-depth experience with cloud hosting platforms
- A keen interest in decentralised and traditional Financial Markets
