About The Position

Serve as the primary Booz Allen communications and outreach specialist supporting a Department of War (DoW) client organization. Help shape and execute strategic communications and engagement efforts that advance mission readiness, strengthen partnerships, and enhance stakeholder understanding of DoW priorities. Work closely with DoW clients to define communication objectives, develop targeted outreach strategies, and deliver products that support mission execution across the enterprise. Operate independently, apply sound judgment, and bring prior experience in defense‑related communications, outreach, or stakeholder engagement. Strategically plan and develop high‑quality outreach and communication materials, including fact sheets, newsletters, media content, briefings, maps, graphics, and digital content, to communicate DoW priorities, enhance stakeholder awareness, and strengthen understanding of mission impacts. Maintain and update the client’s website to ensure timely, accurate, and compelling communication. Provide mission‑focused meeting and coordination support across DoW organizations, ensuring alignment of stakeholder interests and facilitating effective decision‑making. Responsibilities include logistics coordination, agenda development, meeting summaries, preparation of background materials, and coordination of GIS products to support operational and strategic discussions. Support development of public affairs guidance and comprehensive communications strategies, working alongside client support teams to ensure messaging consistency, alignment with DoW policy, and effective engagement with internal and external audiences. Facilitate engagement with state and local government partners, strengthening relationships that enable mission success. Represent the client organization in outreach efforts and help build new partnerships that advance defense objectives. Monitor and assess state and local policy developments relevant to the client mission, integrating findings into communication products, outreach strategies, and operational planning to mitigate risk and support mission assurance.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience with stakeholder engagement, outreach, and strategic communications
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, and SharePoint, and database management
  • Ability to translate complex or technical information into clear, plain messaging for various audiences
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines
  • Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new subject areas
  • Ability to function independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to work on‑site in Alexandria, VA
  • Secret clearance
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, English, or Public Affairs

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with DoW or other Federal agencies, including U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Federal Emergency Management Agency, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, or National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, non-governmental organizations, or state agencies in an educational or professional work environment
  • Knowledge of PowerPoint or other graphics software to create and manipulate sophisticated presentation graphics
  • Knowledge of conservation principles and Federal laws, regulations, and Executive Orders
