About The Position

Under the direction of the Communications Director, the Communications Specialist performs various tasks and completes projects with the Sandy communications team and City departments to develop and deliver clear and engaging messaging. This role utilizes a variety of traditional and digital communication channels such as social media, traditional media, and other marketing and publicity materials. This is a regular, benefitted position within the Administration/Communications Department of Sandy City.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in communications or a related field preferred
Three years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Strong writing, graphic design, and social media skills
Basic understanding of municipal government and public sector communication
Knowledge of public/media relations and content development for digital and print platforms
Familiarity with digital communication tools, content management systems, web editing, and social media platforms
Proficiency in word processing, desktop publishing, and graphic design software (Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or equivalent)
Valid Utah Driver’s License required
Must pass drug test before hire
One-year probationary period required

Nice To Haves

Journalism or media relations experience
Understanding of Utah current affairs
Understanding of municipal government
Public speaking skills

Responsibilities

Serve as back up Public Information Officer
Communicate professionally, exercise sound judgment, and handle sensitive information
Create clear, user-focused digital content with an understanding of marketing, audience targeting, and multi-channel campaigns
