About The Position

The Seasonal Deck Hand works under the direct supervision of the Waterfront Manager, with direction from the Seasonal Propwash Operator. Primary duties include assisting with the safe operation of municipal vessels to conduct prop washing activities as needed, regularly checking depth of channel to assess prop washing needs, and conducting regular cleaning and light maintenance of the vessels. Duties are required at both the Port Franks and Grand Bend Marina.

Requirements

  • Marine Emergency Duties Domestic Vessel Safety or Greater
  • Marine Basic First Aid
  • Valid Marine Medical
  • Restricted Operator Certificate Maritime (ROC-M)
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Small Vessel Operator Proficiency is an asset
  • Previous tugboat experience is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Assisting Propwash Operator in prop washing operations.
  • Follow safe operating procedures of the vessel.
  • Assist with deploying and removing channel and swim area markers.
  • Conduct regular maintenance and upkeep of the hull, decks, superstructures, spuds and towing gear.
  • Conduct regular soundings to monitor channel depths.
  • Ensure life saving and firefighting equipment is properly inspected and maintained.
  • Assist with preparing and submitting logbooks, daily records, and maintenance records.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
