About The Position

The Dean of Restorative Practices (DRP) leads the school's restorative practices programming, progressive discipline, and implementation of positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS) to create a safe, inclusive, and joyful environment that promotes campus safety in all ways with the guidance from the Principal and Assistant Principal(s). The DRP will implement, facilitate, and maintain the school’s behavior management systems to ensure all students, staff, and families understand their role in supporting a safe campus culture. The DRP is also responsible for communicating with appropriate campus, community, and district stakeholders including the Senior Director of Restorative Practices in a timely and responsive manner. The DRP will work in partnership with the Assistant Principal and Principal to support liaising with the BSS Board and Los Angeles Unified School District in reporting high-level disciplinary and other required documentation.

Requirements

  • BA in an education-related field
  • 3+ years of teaching, counseling, or student support experience
  • Strong oral and written communication skills including advocacy skills
  • Ability to connect and build relationships with students and their families
  • Experience using data management systems
  • Experience working with youth from historically underserved communities
  • Experience working in a fast-moving environment; crisis management
  • Deep belief that all students can succeed in achieving their individual educational goals

Responsibilities

  • Set and uphold high expectations for student learning and behavior, with the belief that all students—regardless of background—can excel at the highest levels.
  • Cultivate a positive, inclusive school climate grounded in equity, restorative practices, and trauma-informed approaches that support the whole child.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with students, families, staff, and the community through compassionate and collaborative leadership.
  • Lead with self-awareness, adaptability, and a growth mindset—modeling resilience, openness to feedback, and effective problem-solving.
  • Create systems that support the utilization of restorative practices and PBIS structures to establish, maintain, and repair relationships between student-to-student; student-to-staff; staff-to families.
  • Manage student investigations, inquiry, and resolution process in observance of state and federal law, and district expectations.
  • Collaborate with the site and district leadership to implement and facilitate school culture initiatives based on data, site-specific goals, and Bright Star School’s overall mission and vision for students.
  • Partner with school leaders to implement and manage a campus-wide behavior framework (Tier 1–3) that ensures a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment.
  • Build staff capacity in restorative practices and proactive classroom systems to foster healthy relationships and positive student behavior.
  • Collaborate with students, families, and teams (including MTSS) to provide targeted supports, resources, and individualized Behavior Support Plans.
  • Monitor and analyze behavior data to inform decisions, ensure compliance documentation, and coach staff through feedback, supervision, and professional learning.
