About The Position

The Assistant Dean of Restorative Practices is responsible for refining, communicating, and maintaining student culture systems including Restorative Practices, Social-Emotional Learning, and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBIS). This role involves building relationships with families and students, leading support groups and check-ins, and interfacing with community members to support student success. The Assistant Dean will also investigate student incidents, conduct restorative conferences, and facilitate harm circles and family meetings. Additionally, the position requires active participation in professional development to implement school initiatives and enhance personal skill sets, including providing coaching and support to colleagues. Collaboration with teachers, counselors, and administrators is key to designing and executing interventions and behavioral support plans. The role also involves conducting classroom observations, attending team and grade-level meetings, and developing relationships with external partners. This is a full-time, non-exempt, 11-month position reporting to the School Principal or a designated administrator.

Requirements

  • Diploma or GED required
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including advocacy skills
  • Ability to connect and build relationships with students and their families.
  • Experience using data-management systems.
  • Experience working in a fast-moving environment; crisis management experience
  • Must be able to analyze written, spoken, visual, and other sensory stimuli
  • Must have ability to understand and analyze written and spoken English

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (highly desired)
  • Two years of urban teaching, childcare, child development, or child-centered community organization experience (highly desired)
  • Experience working with youth from historically under-served communities (highly desired)
  • Restorative Practices experience (highly desired)
  • Spanish or Korean Fluency (highly desired)
  • Bilingual Spanish or Korean (highly desired)

Responsibilities

  • Refining, communicating, and maintaining Student Culture Systems: Restorative Practices, Social-Emotional Learning, and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBIS) Systems.
  • Building relationships with families and students, and leading small-group supports, individual check-ins, and student-family meetings.
  • Investigating student incidents, conducting restorative conferences, restorative actions, harm circles, family meetings, after-school service, and recess reflection.
  • Engaging in professional development to implement Bright Star Schools’ initiatives with fidelity and to continue to develop their own skill-set.
  • Providing coaching and support to colleagues.
  • Collaborating with classroom teachers, counselors, instructional assistants, administration, and special educators to design and execute Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions, including behavioral support and safety plans.
  • Conducting classroom observations to support teachers and monitor the implementation of restorative practices and classroom culture.
  • Attending Weekly Check-In Meetings with the Behavior Support Team and Grade-Level Meetings.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with school partners and outside student services.
  • Attending and leading school professional development.
  • Performing any other duties as assigned.
