About The Position
The Child Care Cook, also called a Food Specialist, is responsible for preparing food for the school’s enrolled children. The role requires adapting to menu changes and meeting meal and snack schedules. The cook prepares home-style, nutritious meals within the school’s menu and budget and in accordance with state and federal requirements. The position also involves preparing meals and snacks for children and staff, distributing food to classrooms, following the Director’s daily menu and applicable USDA, licensing, and health department regulations, and maintaining food and supply inventory. The Food Specialist may assist in classrooms as an Assistant Teacher or Floater when needed.
Requirements
- Willingness to learn and adhere to all current state and local regulations.
- Flexibility regarding work hours and schedule.
Nice To Haves
- Work experience in cooking and/or food preparation for multiple individuals in a childcare facility is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Create home-style, nutritional meal plans within the school’s menu, budget, and state and federal requirements.
- Prepare meals and snacks for children and staff and distribute food to classrooms.
- Follow the daily menu provided by the Director, including applicable USDA, licensing, and health department regulations.
- Maintain inventory of food and supplies and order more when needed.
- Assist in classrooms as an Assistant Teacher or Floater as needed.
