About The Position

This is a summer student placement for a Daycare Assistant position for 8 weeks. The role involves observing and upholding policies and procedures of Sagamok Anishnawbek and Shki Waase-Aaban Binoojiinh Gamik. The participant will perform duties under the supervision of the Daycare Manager, focusing on direct engagement with children through play and assisting in various childcare routines and activities.

Requirements

Must demonstrate enrollment as a full-time student in the previous academic semester school and be returning full time in the fall of 2025/2026 Academic school year.
Must be eligible for Sagamok Anishnawbek ISETP program funding (member of Sagamok, valid SIN #)
Must have, or be willing to obtain, First Aid, WHIMIS, & Health and Safety in 4 Steps

Preference will be given to students who qualify for the ISET Subsidy Program

Responsibilities

Ensure that direct engagement with the children through play is at the forefront of each day.
Plan and carry out developmentally appropriate activities and experiences in harmony with the Centre’s program statement.
Assist children in expressing themselves by listening and responding with questions or comments that extend conversations.
Ensure that childcare routines are carried out in a manner that is prompt, hygienic and consistent with good child development principles – eating, napping and transitions between activities.
Help children develop practice of caring for self and picking up and putting away toys, books, and other materials and equipment.
Serve snacks and refreshments to children.
Engage and communicate effectively with staff, parent(s) and/or guardian(s).
Assist with the responsibilities for cleaning and sanitizing playroom, toys, and equipment according to procedure.
Maintain confidentiality.
Perform other duties relevant to the program as assigned by the Manager or designate.
