About The Position

This is a Summer Student Placement opportunity for a Daycare Assistant. The participant will observe and uphold all policies, procedures, and practices of Sagamok Anishnawbek and Shki Waase-Aaban Binoojiinh Gamik. The role involves direct engagement with children through play, planning and carrying out developmentally appropriate activities, assisting children with self-expression and routines, and serving snacks. The assistant will also help children develop self-care skills, maintain a clean and sanitized playroom, and uphold confidentiality. Communication with staff, parents, and guardians is essential. The position is under the supervision of the Daycare Manager.

Requirements

  • Must demonstrate enrollment as a full-time student in the previous academic semester school and be returning full time in the fall of 2025/2026 Academic school year.
  • Must be eligible for Sagamok Anishnawbek ISETP program funding (member of Sagamok, valid SIN #)
  • Must have, or be willing to obtain, First Aid, WHIMIS, & Health and Safety in 4 Steps
  • Fulltime Students (must be returning to school fulltime this Fall)

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that direct engagement with the children through play is at the forefront of each day.
  • Plan and carry out developmentally appropriate activities and experiences in harmony with the Centre’s program statement.
  • Assist children in expressing themselves by listening and responding with questions or comments that extend conversations.
  • Ensure that childcare routines are carried out in a manner that is prompt, hygienic and consistent with good child development principles – eating, napping and transitions between activities.
  • Help children develop practice of caring for self and picking up and putting away toys, books, and other materials and equipment.
  • Serve snacks and refreshments to children.
  • Engage and communicate effectively with staff, parent(s) and/or guardian(s).
  • Assist with the responsibilities for cleaning and sanitizing playroom, toys, and equipment according to procedure.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Perform other duties relevant to the program as assigned by the Manager or designate.
