Day-to-Day Professional Substitute Teachers (min. BA Degree)
About The Position
Serve as a day-to-day substitute teacher when the regular classroom teacher is absent and perform duties assigned by the School Principal. Compensation follows the Berkeley County Schools Substitute Teacher Pay Scale and its phases. Only teachers with a full professional teaching certification or a substitute permit issued before December 11, 2017, may qualify for advanced-degree salary levels. Individuals issued a substitute permit after that date are eligible only for the minimum BA00 degree level, regardless of other education, and may not apply to upgrade their advanced salary degree level. Applicants must meet one of the listed qualification pathways: hold at least a four-year bachelor's degree with a minimum 2.0 GPA from an accredited institution and have completed a county-approved substitute training program within one calendar year; hold a valid WV Substitute Permit issued by the WVDE; or hold a valid or recently expired full teaching certification. Provisional, permit, and temporary teaching credentials are not accepted as full certification. Applicants with a full teaching certification expired more than five years must complete substitute training before applying. Non-certified applicants must complete the county-approved training before applying and provide proof with the application. Applicants selected to proceed will be invited by email to a prescreening interview. Successful applicants will be invited to a workshop/orientation to complete employment paperwork and will receive information about required documentation, screenings, and fees. Applicants are responsible for fees associated with certification, employment, and screening. Applicants must disclose and attach their teaching certification or substitute training certificate as a PDF, complete the entire application, and provide all requested documents. Applicants dismissed or whose contracts were non-renewed for cause, and applicants with unfavorable reference recommendations, are not eligible for consideration.
Requirements
- At least a four-year bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with a minimum 2.0 GPA, plus completion of a county-approved substitute training program within one calendar year; or a valid WV Substitute Permit issued by the WVDE; or a valid or expired-within-five-years full teaching certification.
- Applicants who are not fully certified must complete a county-approved substitute training class before applying and provide proof with their application.
- Applicants holding a full teaching certification that expired more than five years ago must complete a substitute training class before applying.
- Provisional certifications or licenses, permits, and temporary certifications or licenses do not meet the full teaching certification pathway.
- Disclose and attach the teaching certification or substitute training certificate as a PDF document in the application.
- Complete the entire application and provide all required documents.
- Applicants dismissed or whose contracts were non-renewed for cause are ineligible.
- Applicants with unfavorable reference recommendations are ineligible.
