About The Position

Sweeping Corporation of America is hiring a full-time Day Street Sweeper in Downey, California. The role pays $19–$20 per hour, works a first shift, and requires minimal travel (1–10%). The Street Sweeper takes ownership of assigned routes, drives a street sweeper, and operates specialized equipment to help keep streets clean and well-maintained, supporting public safety and environmental quality. The role involves completing equipment inspections, reviewing and completing routes within allotted timeframes, operating equipment safely, handling materials and disposal procedures correctly, reporting issues and incidents promptly, completing required documentation, communicating professionally, adapting to changing conditions, and maintaining reliable attendance. The job requires constant outdoor work with exposure to weather, elements, and traffic, as well as use of appropriate personal protective equipment. Physical demands include frequent sitting and walking or standing; occasional bending, twisting, squatting, kneeling, and pushing or pulling; limited stair climbing and crawling; and lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds at varying heights, including overhead. Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
At least 1 year of DOT driving experience.
CDL-B license and DOT Medical Card.
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Maintain an acceptable driving record and successfully pass a motor vehicle record check, background check, and drug screening in accordance with company policy and applicable law.
Ability to follow safety procedures, conduct inspections, operate equipment responsibly, and comply with traffic, site, and regulatory requirements.
Ability to plan routes, complete work efficiently and accurately, adapt to changing conditions, and maintain dependable attendance.
Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and teammates, represent the company professionally, and promptly report equipment issues, incidents, or safety concerns.
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds at varying heights, including overhead.
Ability to use specialized equipment and hand and foot controls, with fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, reading, screen use, and sustained mental focus.

Responsibilities

Perform required pre-trip and post-trip equipment inspections and ensure safety features are operational before starting a route.
Review assigned routes before departure and ask clarifying questions when routes or expectations are unclear.
Complete assigned jobs within allotted timeframes while meeting quality expectations and attention to detail.
Operate equipment safely and efficiently, following traffic laws, company safety procedures, and site-specific protocols; use additional caution during inclement weather or challenging conditions.
Handle materials safely and securely, following correct procedures for material types and disposal sites.
Report equipment issues, malfunctions, near misses, crashes, or injuries within 30 minutes or as soon as safely possible.
Escalate opportunities, work issues, and safety concerns to management immediately.
Maintain a professional attitude and appearance and communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and clients as needed.
Accurately complete required logs, manifests, and forms.
Respond appropriately to changes and challenges and identify and solve issues in a timely manner.
Report to work on time and as scheduled, remain prepared throughout assigned shifts, and adhere to start times, breaks, and end times.
