Day Custodian
About The Position
The Day Custodian works at Apple Valley High School's Athletic Center, cleaning building areas and performing minor repairs, routine maintenance, preventive maintenance, and grounds work. The role involves moving and assembling furniture, complying with the school recycling program, and helping secure the building. The position is scheduled for 8 hours per day, Tuesday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Hours may need to be adjusted for early or late programs, snow removal, and other needs. The position reports to the Building Engineer. Employment is effective as soon as possible.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalency required.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and work independently.
- Physical ability to perform assigned duties, including regularly lifting up to 50 pounds, and flexibility in cleaning assignments.
- Ability to communicate clearly and positively with staff, students, and the public.
- Desire to work cooperatively in a team environment.
- Good attendance record and punctuality.
- Positive work performance evaluations.
- No recent disciplinary actions.
- Conduct a positive interview and receive a good reference from current and previous supervisors.

Responsibilities
- Clean building areas and perform minor repairs, routine maintenance, and preventive maintenance as directed or required.
- Perform grounds maintenance, including picking up trash, mowing, pulling or spraying weeds, and snow removal.
- Comply with the school recycling program.
- Move and assemble furniture.
- Perform duties in a timely, neat, and efficient manner.
- Assist in securing the building during and at the end of the shift.
- Adjust hours to accommodate early or late programs, snow removal, and other needs.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
