About The Position

The Database Engineer owns the health, performance, and evolution of the database platforms supporting US Cold Storage's warehouse management systems. The role covers existing Oracle databases and PostgreSQL and MongoDB Atlas systems supporting a next-generation microservices platform in Azure. Working with Infrastructure, DevOps, and Software Engineering, the engineer designs, implements, and scales database systems, automates operational work through CI/CD, and provides real-time support for mission-critical workloads where downtime can disrupt shipments. The role is primarily technical and office-based, with occasional interaction in operational environments as needed. It is based in Camden, New Jersey, under a hybrid work model; the number of required in-office days may vary according to team, departmental, and business needs. Travel is less than 10%.

Requirements

At least 5 years of experience as a DBA or Database Engineer, with strong proficiency in Oracle and PostgreSQL.
Fluency in PL/SQL, including designing and optimizing performant queries.
Ability to diagnose database-related application issues, including performance bottlenecks, locking, and replication delays.
Experience managing database infrastructure in the cloud.
Experience deploying database systems using Infrastructure as Code, such as Terraform or similar tools, and CI/CD tooling such as Jenkins or GitHub Actions.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages to technical and non-technical audiences.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Nice To Haves

Experience with NoSQL/JSON databases.
Experience with Azure cloud infrastructure.
Experience building monitoring and alerting for critical database operations using Dynatrace or Azure Monitor.

Responsibilities

Monitor, patch, and maintain the existing Oracle database infrastructure on OCI to ensure production uptime and reliability.
Tune and optimize Oracle performance through query plan analysis, indexing strategies, and schema-level improvements.
Architect, deploy, and manage cloud-based database systems in Azure, including PostgreSQL and MongoDB.
Own high-availability and disaster-recovery readiness across intra-region and cross-region failure scenarios, including defining and validating RPO/RTO targets with the business.
Partner with DevOps, Development, and Infrastructure teams to align database architecture with application performance targets while managing cloud spending.
Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines in GitHub Actions and Jenkins to automate schema migrations, environment provisioning, and routine operational tasks.
Implement and own database observability, including query performance monitoring, capacity forecasting, and cloud cost optimization.
Provide real-time production support for mission-critical database workloads, including on-call participation and incident response.
