About The Position

OpsGuru, a Carbon60 Company, is a global engineering and consulting group that helps organizations accelerate digital transformation through technology, engineering expertise, and outcome-driven solutions. The Data Solutions Architect provides technical expertise and leadership to Data Engineers on customer engagements while maintaining a systems view that connects technical decisions to broader project goals. Working alongside Principal Consultants, the architect helps ensure project deliverables meet stakeholder needs and OpsGuru's quality and operational maturity standards. The role leads the design and implementation of cloud data platforms and end-to-end Microsoft Fabric solutions, including Lakehouse, Data Warehouse, Real-Time Intelligence, and Data Factory components. It includes leading design and discovery sessions, translating requirements into deliverables and technical roadmaps, guiding engineering teams, managing engagement scope, and serving as a trusted customer advisor. The architect also develops data pipelines and governance, lineage, and data quality practices across the platform; collaborates with data product owners, engineers, and business stakeholders; and champions CI/CD, infrastructure as code, and DevOps practices. The role includes mentoring engineers and contributing to internal standards and reusable accelerators.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of experience in data or solutions architecture roles, with hands-on delivery experience rather than purely advisory work; Azure experience is preferred.
  • Deep practical expertise in Microsoft Fabric, including Lakehouse, Warehouse, Pipelines, Notebooks, and OneLake.
  • Strong proficiency across the Azure data stack, including Azure Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, Azure Databricks, ADLS Gen2, and Azure SQL.
  • Proficiency in Python and/or Spark (PySpark) for data transformation and SQL for analytical workloads.
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Purview for data cataloguing, lineage, classification, and governance policy enforcement.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement data quality frameworks, including expectations, anomaly detection, and lineage-aware testing.
  • Experience building complex data engineering pipelines and ETL/ELT tasks.
  • Experience with relational databases such as Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, Postgres, or MariaDB, or managed cloud RDBMS services such as Amazon Aurora.
  • Experience with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB, Cassandra, CouchDB, Elasticsearch, Neo4j, DynamoDB, or BigTable.
  • Experience building batch-processing and real-time-processing systems.
  • Experience building data warehouses, data lakes, and unified analytics platforms using technologies such as Microsoft Fabric, Snowflake, or Databricks.
  • Ability to discuss and design solutions involving data lineage, data quality gates, anonymization, governance, security, replication, caching, lifecycle management, catalogs, and networking.
  • Understanding of requirements and impacts associated with compliance frameworks such as HIPAA, PCI, GDPR, and PIPEDA.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience writing technical documentation.
  • Experience in technical mentoring.
  • Experience in a customer-facing delivery role in consulting or professional services.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Purview and Foundry.
  • Experience in at least three of the following areas: real-time streaming solutions using Kafka, Kinesis, Pub/Sub messaging, event buses, or Spark Streaming; analytics and BI solutions such as MicroStrategy, Tibco, QlikView, or Tableau; AI/ML solutions including ongoing training, optimization, and model deployment; designing, implementing, training, and optimizing ML and AI models; or solutions using caching systems such as Redis and object stores such as Amazon S3 or Amazon Glacier.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical expertise and leadership across cloud data technologies, including tool selection, resolving complex engineering issues, and guiding best practices.
  • Lead the design and implementation of data platforms that meet customers' business requirements.
  • Lead whiteboard design sessions with internal and external team members.
  • Identify and communicate technical risks throughout projects.
  • Work with Principal Consultants to gather requirements during technical discovery, define deliverables, and create technical roadmaps.
  • Lead data engineering teams in executing project roadmaps and provide guidance on tasks, priorities, and technical issues.
  • Manage customer engagement scope, assess the impact of changing requirements, and ensure stakeholders understand and agree to changes.
  • Maintain close customer relationships as a trusted advisor by setting expectations, challenging assumptions, soliciting feedback, and taking ownership of deliverables.
  • Architect end-to-end Microsoft Fabric data solutions, including Lakehouse, Data Warehouse, Real-Time Intelligence, and Data Factory components.
  • Lead technical design sessions and produce architecture artifacts such as solution designs, data flow diagrams, and runbooks.
  • Build and optimize data pipelines using Azure Data Factory and Fabric Data Engineering workloads.
  • Define and enforce data governance frameworks, including policies, stewardship models, and access controls, using Microsoft Purview.
  • Implement end-to-end data lineage tracking to support auditability across ingestion, transformation, and consumption.
  • Establish data quality rules, monitoring, and remediation processes across OneLake and downstream analytics layers.
  • Collaborate with data product owners, engineers, and business stakeholders to turn requirements into scalable platform designs.
  • Promote CI/CD, infrastructure as code using Bicep or Terraform, and DevOps practices in the Azure data environment.
  • Mentor engineering teams and contribute to internal standards and reusable accelerators.
