Workforce Planning - Data Scientist - Senior Associate

JPMorganChase•Wilmington, NC

About The Position

The Workforce Planning (WFP) Data Science team develops AI/ML solutions to forecast demand, optimize capacity, and improve scheduling across Chase call centers, back-office operations, and approximately 5,200 branches. The work involves complex, high-impact business problems that often require original problem framing and modeling rather than plug-and-play solutions. As a Senior Associate Data Scientist in Consumer and Community Banking’s Workforce Planning organization, you will independently frame ambiguous, data-intensive business questions, translate them into mathematical formulations, and choose modeling approaches grounded in the problem’s structure and theoretical assumptions. You will design, develop, and productionize rigorous AI/ML solutions that advance Workforce Planning capabilities, including real-time inference and decision-making.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree and at least 3 years of experience, or a doctorate (PhD) and at least 1 year of experience, working as a data science professional or in a related quantitative profession.
  • Degree or experience in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Analytics, Data Science, Engineering, Operations Research, Economics, Mathematics, Machine Learning, or Artificial Intelligence.
  • Experience supporting AI/ML projects with multiple team members.
  • Hands-on experience developing statistical, machine learning, and/or artificial intelligence models.
  • Foundational understanding of the mathematics and theory behind AI/ML algorithms, including the ability to reason about model assumptions, behavior, and limitations beyond empirical validation.
  • Proficiency in data science programming languages such as Python, R, or Scala.
  • Experience with big-data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, or SparkML, and familiarity with data table operations such as SQL or Hive.
  • Demonstrated relationship-building skills and the ability to accomplish objectives through positive influence.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced expertise in time series and operations research techniques.
  • Skills in Natural Language Processing (NLP), Natural Language Generation (NLG), neural networks, or other ML/AI areas.
  • Prior experience with public cloud technologies such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Experience leading highly complex cross-functional technical projects with multiple stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop machine learning, artificial intelligence, and statistical models.
  • Support AI/ML projects individually or as part of a project team.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business requirements and clearly define solution objectives.
  • Select and apply modeling approaches based on a principled understanding of problem structure and underlying assumptions, while keeping up with current AI/ML research.
  • Ensure the robustness of data science solutions.
  • Develop and communicate recommendations and data science solutions in an accessible way, using data to tell a story.
  • Build credibility and work effectively with peers, clients, and other stakeholders.
