About The Position

The Data Product Owner serves as the liaison between underwriting and the data warehouse and reporting teams. This role partners directly with underwriting leadership to understand their reporting and data needs, translates those needs into clear requirements for the data and engineering teams, and follows the work through delivery. The role can span multiple verticals depending on size and complexity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Technology, Analytics, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 4+ years of experience in business analysis, data analysis, or product ownership.
  • Demonstrated experience gathering requirements and delivering alongside data warehouse, BI, or reporting teams.
  • Experience working in an agile environment using development boards or ticketing systems.
  • Strong analytical ability — able to take an ambiguous business ask and work it down to the underlying data need.
  • Clear written communication, especially in translating business needs into written requirements.
  • Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities across multiple verticals.
  • Ability to build professional relationships with division owners and senior business stakeholders.
  • Comfort with agile delivery practices and backlog management.
  • Working familiarity with reporting and BI tooling and core data warehouse concepts.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with insurance industry concepts and terminology — particularly underwriting — is strongly preferred.
  • Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) or equivalent is a plus.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Meet regularly with underwriting teams to understand business objectives, reporting priorities, and evolving data needs.
  • Capture and document business requirements in clear, unambiguous language that reporting and engineering teams can build from directly.
  • Partner with the data warehouse and reporting teams to scope, prioritize, and establish work.
  • Serve as the translator between business stakeholders and technical teams, ensuring each side understands the other’s constraints and intent.
  • Manage backlog items and development boards; participate in agile ceremonies and delivery cadence.
  • Validate delivered reporting and data outputs against original business intent and drive adoption within the vertical.
  • Apply critical thinking as new and expansionary products come into scope, identifying downstream data and reporting implications.
  • Build and maintain trusted working relationships with division owners and vertical leadership.

Benefits

  • medical, dental, vision, life, disability, and AD&D insurance
  • tax-advantaged savings accounts
  • a 401(k) plan with company match
  • generous paid time off programs, including company holidays, vacation and sick days, new parent leave, and more
