Data Product Manager, Business Operations

Skydio•San Mateo, CA
•$140,000 - $165,000

About The Position

Skydio is hiring a data product manager for its Business Data Platform team. Skydio runs its business on Palantir Foundry, where sales, finance, manufacturing, and operations teams build applications and where some data is also used directly in customer products. The role helps own the shared Foundry Ontology—the business objects, actions, and links connecting company systems—and guides new use cases onto that model as the platform grows. The position reports to the head of Business Data Platform. The manager will learn how business teams operate, determine what to reuse, extend, or build, and maintain a clean, well-typed ontology. The role works closely with business leaders, Palantir forward deployed engineers, and the data security engineer to turn ideas into working use cases with appropriate access protections. It also supports governed connections between systems, internal apps, integrations, and some customer-facing products, and helps teams become productive through onboarding, office hours, and documentation. The role requires at least 3 years of experience in product management, consulting, or a forward deployed role. Palantir Foundry experience, particularly Ontology design, is strongly preferred. Obtaining FAA Part 107 certification within the first 60 days is strongly encouraged for all Skydio employees and required for certain positions. The annual base salary range is $140,000–$165,000. Compensation packages for regular, full-time employees include stock options and comprehensive benefits. Relocation assistance may be provided for eligible roles. Regular, full-time employees may enroll in group health insurance plans and are eligible for paid vacation, sick leave, holiday pay, and a 401(k) savings plan. Compensation and benefits are subject to applicable laws, company policies, and eligibility criteria; compensation may vary by location.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience in product management, consulting, or a forward deployed role; ideally at a software company shipping products for customers.
  • Understand how business functions operate end to end, including go-to-market sales and forecasting, finance close and reporting, and manufacturing planning and production; experience in all functions is not required.
  • Ability to design data models and ontologies, including entities, relationships, and actions that can support new use cases.
  • Technical ability to write SQL, read a data pipeline, and reason about APIs and integrations between systems such as Salesforce, NetSuite, and Workday.
  • Ability to gather context from busy business users, challenge requested solutions while maintaining trust, and scope an honest first version.
  • Ability to learn new systems quickly and document findings for others.
  • Treat access rules as part of the product and understand row-level security and data classification.
  • Build and ship apps at work or independently, and use AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Windsurf regularly.
  • Ability to stand up a React app that pulls from live data, in Foundry or elsewhere.
  • Obtain FAA Part 107 certification within the first 60 days of employment if required for the position.

Nice To Haves

  • Palantir Foundry experience, especially Ontology design involving object types, link types, actions, and functions.
  • Experience at a software company shipping products for customers.
  • FAA Part 107 certification is strongly encouraged for all Skydio employees and required for certain positions.

Responsibilities

  • Own and evolve the Foundry Ontology with the head of Business Data Platform, maintaining shared business objects, actions, and links that support apps and agents.
  • Learn how go-to-market, finance, manufacturing, and operations teams work, and model those processes so data from Salesforce, NetSuite, Workday, and other systems connects in one place.
  • Work with business leaders to identify information needs and turn them into metrics, dashboards, and apps on the ontology; determine when to work around imperfect data and when to seek a source-system fix.
  • Run intake for new use cases, helping teams define objects, actions, and access needs; determine what to reuse, extend, or build and who will build it, including Palantir forward deployed engineers.
  • Work with the data security engineer to place use cases in suitable projects and access boundaries so teams can build on protected data.
  • Maintain a clean, well-typed ontology with clear names, descriptions, and types, and bring standards to the cross-functional Data Council.
  • Connect systems through the ontology and its APIs so internal apps, integrations, and some customer-facing products use the same governed data.
  • Lead enablement by running office hours, onboarding teams and builders, and keeping documentation current.

Benefits

  • Competitive base salary and stock options for regular, full-time employees.
  • Comprehensive benefits package.
  • Group health insurance plan enrollment eligibility.
  • Paid vacation time.
  • Sick leave.
  • Holiday pay.
  • 401(k) savings plan.
  • Relocation assistance may be provided for eligible roles.
