Enterprise Data Product Manager - Operations

Lazard•New York, NY
•$175,000 - $200,000

About The Position

Lazard Asset Management is seeking a Senior Vice President, Enterprise Data Product Manager, within its AI and Data Transformation team, to steward the investment operations data domain across multiple regions. The domain includes holdings, transactions, valuation and NAV, and AUM data across equities, fixed income, derivatives, and FX, with potential expansion into private assets. The data is produced largely by an outsourced middle and back office provider. Operations and Accounting teams own day-to-day operations, while this role provides oversight, governance, and architecture to make data trusted, business-ready, and AI-ready across the firm. Lazard Asset Management is a GIPS-compliant firm. The role serves as data steward and governance lead for the investment operations domain; defines data products, domain models, data contracts, certification rules, and consumption paths; and partners with data engineering to deliver governed, quality-controlled products. It works across Operations, Accounting, Performance, Finance, Client Reporting, Risk, Compliance, and sales and distribution, and reports roadmap progress to business and technology leadership. The successful candidate leads through data product owners and influence, and works fluently with data engineering without being an engineer or an operations processor.

Requirements

  • 10 or more years in investment operations or investment data management, including at least 3 years accountable for data governance, data quality, or data products in a business-facing role.
  • Track record governing holdings, accounting, or AUM data across multiple asset classes at an asset manager or comparable regulated financial services business.
  • Deep knowledge of the investment data lifecycle, book of record concepts (IBOR and ABOR), and outsourced middle and back office models.
  • Strong SQL skills and confidence working directly with data in a cloud warehouse or lakehouse, including validating results independently.
  • Working knowledge of medallion architecture and data product concepts, and experience partnering with data engineering as the business owner.
  • Experience writing governance artifacts and leading data owners outside the reporting line through influence rather than authority.
  • Experience working across a global organization with teams in multiple regions and time zones.
  • Credibility with senior investment and operations stakeholders.
  • Undergraduate degree or higher in a relevant field.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with State Street Alpha.
  • Experience with Snowflake, Databricks, or dbt, and catalog tooling such as Collibra or Unity Catalog.
  • Experience delivering data for AI or agentic systems, including semantic definitions and entitlements for machine consumers.
  • Experience with private assets data or master data programs for security, portfolio, or account masters.
  • Relevant certifications such as CDMP or cloud data platform certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Act as data steward and governance lead for the investment operations domain, establishing data definitions, business rules, classifications, entitlements, and retention for accounts, products, holdings, transactions, valuation, and NAV data, and represent the domain at the firm’s data governance forum.
  • Recommend data product owners and collaborate with Operations and Accounting leads on their appointments; support owners in managing products against published contracts covering definitions, quality rules, refresh SLAs, and ownership.
  • Define data states, including preliminary, final, and restated, and certification rules for data used internally, with clients, for regulatory purposes, or publicly; enforce the principle that products without contracts are unavailable for consumption.
  • Define the domain model and its data products, including reference data, holdings, transactions, valuation and NAV, and AUM and flows, with product boundaries, grain, and relationships agreed with owners.
  • Oversee quality controls operated by product owners and report on quality across the domain; steward portfolio, account, and security cross-references so holdings join across front, middle, and back office.
  • Partner with Operations, Accounting, Performance, Finance, Client Reporting, Risk, Compliance, and the sales and distribution data domain to align definitions; support Finance as owner of AUM and flows; retire shadow data sets in favor of governed products.
  • Own the logical design of the domain and its medallion structure, from raw provider ingestion through conformed layers to certified products, preserving full history so official figures are not overwritten.
  • Translate business requirements into engineering specifications, decide whether delivered products meet their contracts, and sequence delivery as vertical slices according to business and control value.
  • Define consumption paths, including governed APIs, a semantic layer with certified metrics, BI access, and interfaces for AI agents; monitor lineage and observability in production.
  • Make the domain AI-ready through semantic definitions, lineage, and entitlements that support agentic workflows such as break investigation, pricing and NAV review, and self-service operational queries.
  • Make the domain business-ready so holdings, NAV, and AUM data are produced once and consumed across client reporting, factsheets, RFPs, CRM, finance reporting, and leadership dashboards.
  • Report roadmap progress to business and technology leadership using measures including governed products delivered, data quality metrics, adoption, and displacement of manual processes.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive, competitive benefits.
  • Potential incentive compensation.
  • Employee experience intended to support balance among career, family, and community commitments.
  • Investment in career development.
