About The Position

Under the guidance of the Supervisor of Data Entry and Repair Operators, the Data Entry Repair Operator enters tax returns into the Bureau of Internal Revenue’s various tax modules. The employee ensures applicable schedules are attached and entered according to form type, troubleshoots minor problems, and makes adjustments using predefined procedures. Work is reviewed for compliance with standard operating procedures, but the employee is expected to work independently and exercise initiative. The role affects the processing of returns and is performed in an office setting.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent from an accredited institution.
• Knowledge of the operating system and data-processing processes and procedures.
• Knowledge of tax terminology, forms, and documents used to process local tax returns and supporting documentation.
• Knowledge of current Virgin Islands and federal tax laws, rules, and regulations.
• Basic mathematics skills.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Skill operating computer systems and applications used to enter, update, and maintain taxpayer and transaction records.
• Ability to enter data rapidly and accurately.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, perform tasks rapidly and accurately, and maintain good working relationships with employees.
• Ability to use judgment when interpreting and applying guidelines.
• Ingenuity, resourcefulness, and good judgment to resolve issues.

Responsibilities

• Enter alphanumeric data from various sources.
• Decipher written responses and returns rejected by the scanner.
• Manually edit returns that the system cannot decipher.
• Log assigned work orders into and out of the system.
• Prepare production logs or reports for completed assignments.
• Troubleshoot minor problems and make adjustments according to predefined procedures.
• Ensure applicable schedules are attached and entered as specified by form type.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
