About the position
We are seeking an experienced data engineering manager to join our team at Messari. In this role, you will be responsible for expanding the scope and reliability of our data transformations, ensuring high data integrity across our data for analytical workflows. You will work on our entire data architecture, developing strategies to optimize data transformation and standardize data modeling. Additionally, you will collaborate with our data science, data engineering, and analytics teams to identify areas for improvement and develop innovative solutions to complex data problems in the crypto industry. Responsibilities
- Be a partner and driver of data strategy
- Work cross-functionally to build Messari's data transformation and data standardization efforts
- Ensure data quality by improving data integrity and building systems that meet enterprise-grade data standards
- Oversee data management, data analytics, data governance, and data provenance
- Build standardized data models for blockchain data
- Build systems to monitor and uphold data integrity
- Lead and manage a high-caliber data team
- Collaborate with the team on data executions and support individual growth
- Expand the team by attracting high-caliber talent
- Have a strong engineering background with experience in data engineering, data science, or analytics engineering
- Have prior people management experience
- Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Uphold high standards for data transformation, data modeling, and data lineage
- Have experience working with data warehouses and data transformation tools
- Have extensive knowledge in SQL and relational databases
- Have an interest in cryptocurrencies and a basic understanding of blockchains and/or decentralized finance (DeFi) (nice to have)
Requirements
- Strong engineering background with 10+ years of professional working experience, including 5+ years in a Data Engineering, Data Science, or Analytics Engineering capacity
- 4+ years of prior people management experience, including performance reviews, coaching, mentoring, and sprint planning
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a team-first attitude
- Ability to manage and lead a high caliber team and think strategically while executing tactically
- Obsessed with data integrity and upholds high standards for data transformation, data modeling, and data lineage
- Experience working with data warehouses like Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, etc.
- Experience working with data transformation tools like DBT and using task orchestrators like Dagster or Airflow
- Extensive knowledge in SQL and relational databases
- Interest in cryptocurrencies and a basic understanding of blockchains and/or decentralized finance (DeFi) is a plus
