Data Center Solutions Architect
About The Position
The Data Center Solutions Architect is a trusted advisor and technical support professional for WESCO Global Solutions, focusing on Data Center Solutions. The role is part of the Technology Support team, which provides technical expertise to WESCO’s Communications and Security Solutions, Electrical and Electronic Solutions, and Utility and Broadband Solutions sales organizations. The position focuses on designing and supporting data center physical infrastructure, including structured cabling, fiber and copper connectivity, pathways, spaces, cabinets, racks, and supporting infrastructure. It requires a strong understanding of Layer 1 network infrastructure and data center environments, along with working knowledge of active equipment such as switches, storage, compute, UPS, and PDU systems. The architect supports customer engagement throughout the sales cycle, develops technical deliverables, advises sales teams, collaborates with vendor partners, and presents or teaches technical solutions. Travel is approximately 10%–25%.
Requirements
- Associate degree or commensurate technical experience.
- Five to ten years of experience in a technical role supporting design, implementation, or commissioning; data center or infrastructure environments are preferred.
- Knowledge of physical layer infrastructure design, including copper and fiber cabling, routing, patching, and structured cabling standards.
- General understanding of data center environments, including cabinets, power (PDUs/UPS), cooling, and active network components.
- Strong customer-centric mindset and effective communication and presentation skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to travel approximately 10%–25%.
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical or engineering discipline.
- Experience designing with Visio; familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, or similar tools.
- Industry certifications such as BICSI RCDD/DCDC or equivalent; preferred but not required.
Responsibilities
- Establish WESCO’s credibility with end-user customers and serve as a technical liaison throughout the sales cycle, positioning standards-based technology solutions and providing customer-aligned education.
- Prepare technical deliverables, including bills of material (BOMs), designs using Visio, AutoCAD, Revit, or similar tools, and written specifications; clearly communicate WESCO’s value proposition, including Supply Chain and Global Solutions capabilities.
- Serve as a technical resource to WESCO business leaders and sales teams, providing guidance and support to execute sales strategies and initiatives and improve customer engagement and solution positioning.
- Partner with Global Technical Resource and Solutions Support teams to scale execution, leverage shared resources, and improve turnaround time for customer deliverables.
- Participate in advanced technical training and continued education to strengthen knowledge of system architectures, particularly data center environments and physical infrastructure.
- Maintain relevant industry certifications aligned with role and business needs; certifications are preferred but not required.
- Act as a liaison to key vendor partners to support solution development and identify opportunities to position vendor technologies in customer environments.
- Deliver technical presentations and hands-on training in customer meetings, technical seminars, and industry events focused on data center and infrastructure solutions.
- Support customer engagement through WESCO innovation or lab center visits when applicable, providing subject matter expertise as needed.
