About The Position

ELITS is looking for a highly motivated and skilled Data Center Field Services Technician to lead work in customer data centers and co-location facilities around Mississauga. You will be responsible for ensuring the reliable installation, maintenance, and operation of optical transport and related infrastructure within customer environments. You will act as an on-site technical interface, helping maintain high standards across fiber installations, migrations, remediation, break/fix, and remote hands services. This role includes travel to non-home market sites at short notice and multi-week assignments, up to approximately 25% of the time.

Requirements

  • Team lead or senior field experience in data center, fiber, or transport environments.
  • Strong written and verbal English skills for customer-facing communication and relationship building.
  • Excellent organizational, administrative, and documentation skills using customer applications and Microsoft Office tools.
  • 3 to 15 years of experience in data center operations or a similar technical environment with direct customer interaction.
  • Strong hands-on experience with connectorized fibre optic cabling, including single-mode and multi-mode fibre, LC connectors, fan-outs, and structured cabling.
  • Demonstrated experience with optical testing and transport troubleshooting.
  • Ability to multitask, remain composed under pressure, and adapt in fast-paced, high-availability environments.
  • Commitment to safety standards, quality requirements, and operational best practices.
  • Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 lbs.
  • Comfortable working at heights and in varying environmental conditions.
  • Comfortable using a smartphone and laptop for communication, ticketing, and documentation in field environments.
  • Willingness to travel as needed for customer and project requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily audits of work performed at customer data centers and co-locations, providing immediate feedback to field technicians and project stakeholders.
  • Interact directly with customer teams through ticketing tools and face-to-face communication, providing clear reports and updates.
  • Assist with fiber installation, decommissioning, break/fix, remediation, and migration activities across data center optical and transport environments.
  • Conduct and/or supervise optical testing and troubleshooting using tools such as optical power meters, stabilized light sources, visual fault locators, optical time domain reflectometers, and test sets.
  • Deliver services by accurately interpreting and executing methods of procedure, engineering documents, vendor documentation, and network diagrams.
  • Read and interpret cut sheets and physical network design documents to ensure accurate port connections and effective cable management.
