About The Position

The City and County of Denver's Arts and Culture Department is seeking friendly and fun Dance Instructors with a passion for connecting communities through the arts. This part-time position involves instructing a variety of dance classes for Denver's youth, including Creative Movement, Pre Ballet, and Ballet 1. Instructors will also be responsible for creating supply lists, setting up and cleaning up after classes, assisting coordinators with programming ideas and community engagement, mentoring newer instructors, and responding to participant inquiries. The role requires a passion for teaching, knowledge of various dance styles, and enthusiasm for working with children, connecting communities, and inspiring creativity. The position is located at multiple recreation centers and other locations throughout the City and County of Denver, with specific hiring needs at Harvey Park, Harvard Gulch, and Carla Madison Recreation Centers. This role offers the opportunity to teach a variety of age groups and contribute to a diverse, inclusive, and talented workforce.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.
  • Two (2) years of experience (paid or volunteer) as an instructor in an organized specialized formal program.
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification at the time of application or within 6 months of hire
  • Ability to travel to Denver’s 30 recreation centers throughout the city as needed

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree or higher in a dance, dance history, or a related field
  • Experience teaching a variety of dance styles
  • Experience in ballet
  • Prior experience working with youth, 2-12 years old
  • Prior experience planning, managing, or coordinating creative dance programming
  • Bilingual skills preferred, but not required

Responsibilities

  • Create, plan, implement, and instruct a variety of dance classes for Denver’s youth
  • Create supply lists for classes
  • Teach classes such as Creative Movement, Pre Ballet, and Ballet 1 classes
  • Setup before, and breakdown/cleanup after each class
  • Assist coordinators with future programming ideas and community engagement; help mentor newer art instructors as need
  • Respond to class-specific inquiries from participants and community members
  • Collect and report feedback to the Arts & Culture Program Coordinators for future programming improvement
  • Other duties as assigned
