About The Position

The position of Dance Instructor is a part-time position. The Dance Instructor is under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor and is responsible for planning and teaching a developmentally appropriate class for students of various ages in a variety of dance techniques.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma Required
  • Minimum 2 - 3 years teaching experience
  • Minimum 8 years of dance experience
  • Complete knowledge of a variety of dance techniques
  • Ability to teach in any given class situation
  • Certified in Red Cross First Aid, CPR and AED within 3 months of hire

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in Dance Education or related field preferred

Responsibilities

  • Ensure program activities are conducted safely and according to all safety guidelines.
  • Organize class and ensure that the program is of high quality, efficiency and safety at all times.
  • Develop and prepare a plan of activities suited for children.
  • Develop, plan and implement spring recital and holiday dance show annually.
  • Deliver quality customer service at all times.
  • Keep information confidential.
  • Turn in accident/incident reports the day the accident occurred.
  • Report major accidents to the Recreation Supervisor immediately.
  • Keep the Recreation Supervisor informed of any changes or problems that may arise in the class meeting.
  • Perform all job tasks within the rules and guidelines of the District's safety program.
  • Take attendance for each class.
  • Collect program evaluations when necessary.
  • Maintain an organized session.
  • Perform other work as assigned by the Recreation Supervisor and/or the Superintendent of Recreation.
  • Prevent accidents through enforcement of policies, rules, regulations and ordinances governing the conduct of children during programs.
  • Attend all required staff meetings with Recreation Supervisors as well as other staff.
  • Uphold safety and risk management strategies in support of and compliance with Park District policies, procedures, ordinances and practices.
  • Familiarity with and effective implementation of the Employee Safety Manual, Emergency Response Plan, and Crisis Management Plan.
  • Attend professional educational and safety trainings.
  • Assist with emergency procedures and building evaluation.
  • Utilize Personal Protective Equipment when performing duties, based on job tasks.
  • Correct unsafe conditions and/or report them to supervisor.
  • Promptly report hazardous conditions, accidents and injuries to supervisor.
  • Complete incident/accident report forms and promptly forwards them to supervisor.
