About The Position

Under the direction of the Sports Coordinator and consistent with the Christian mission of the Catawba Valley YMCA, the Dance Instructor implements the Dance Program for the branch, its members, and the community. The role includes teaching scheduled dance classes, arranging substitutes when needed, assisting with special events, and collaborating with other department instructors on costumes and recitals. YMCA staff are responsible for creating a safe, inclusive environment by following abuse-prevention policies and procedures, promptly reporting concerns or incidents, and maintaining appropriate boundaries with youth and members.

Requirements

Communicate well with others and have an enthusiastic personality and the ability to teach.
Have a dance or related degree, or equivalent work experience.
Present a professional image to parents and the general public.
Have general knowledge of YMCA programs and philosophies and an understanding of Christian principles.
Be able to work in and resolve conflict situations and develop harmonious relationships with staff, participants, and members.
Have strong organizational skills.

Responsibilities

Assist with special events when needed.
Teach dance classes at agreed-upon scheduled times.
Arrange for substitutes to teach scheduled classes when necessary.
Work with other department instructors to select and order costumes and organize and stage recitals.
Create a safe, inclusive environment by following YMCA policies and procedures related to abuse prevention, promptly reporting concerns or incidents, and maintaining appropriate boundaries with youth and members.
