About The Position

Mercury Print Productions is looking for an experienced Cutter Operator to join their team. Mercury is a printing company with a proud legacy in the industry, dedicated to pushing the boundaries of educational printing through innovation and investment in cutting-edge technology and machinery. They are seeking a hardworking, motivated individual with a passion for print and a knack for mechanics. The Cutter Operator is responsible for cutting paper stock for binding/folding, performing manual tasks and all phases of machine production to create high-quality printed materials efficiently and accurately for clients.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 3 years’ machine operator experience with proven performance in all phases is required.
  • Strong machine operator and maintenance skills
  • Attention to detail

  • Basic computer skills
  • Effective communication skills
  • High-level math skills (including fractions and decimals)
  • Ability to read a ruler
  • Ability to apply measurements/calculations/written instructions to machine operation
  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Must be of legal working age and eligible to work in the U.S.

Nice To Haves

  • Print industry, bindery and/or cutter experience is highly preferred.
  • A solid understanding of quality control procedures, bindery processes and cutting operations is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, LSS, ISO, and a 5S mindset is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs all phases of cutting machine operation for smooth job execution (without supervision)
  • Sets up the machine and makes any adjustments by accurately applying job ticket information (size, cut, etc.)
  • Prepares product for cutting (loads onto cutter bed, jog & align sheets against the guide, apply measurements, etc.)
  • Proficiently operates and monitors the machine, enters data and consistently meets production standards
  • Routinely performs maintenance, repairs and cleaning (changing blades, lubrications, etc.); and maintains logs
  • Identifies, troubleshoots, and resolves production issues to minimize downtime/quality concerns
  • Minimizes waste/rework/high-cost occurrences through quality control checks, and reports deficiencies
  • Notifies manager of any equipment issues, supply needs, production issues or scheduling concerns
  • Assists in bindery, packing, inspection, handwork, etc. (as needed)
  • Properly loads/unloads/stacks product; and safely moves production/stock/supplies throughout the facility
  • Completes general housekeeping, cleans up and keeps work area neat and orderly
  • Continuously work to develop skills / knowledge and complete all training required by the company
  • Be a team player, communicate clearly and respectfully and maintain a positive attitude
  • Be dependable, reliable, and consistently perform high quality work meeting company production standards
  • Create a safe and hazard free work environment; follow safety protocols and report any risks
  • Perform other duties as needed / assigned
  • Adhere to all company and department policies and procedures
