The Cutter Operator is to perform a variety of duties to set up and operate cutting machines in order to cut product to proper length and width. The position may be involved in a variety of areas within the cutting department; Commercial Cutting, Die Cutting, Primary Cutting Why work at MCC: Compensation: Depending on experience Generous benefits package including medical, dental, vision, disability, life insurance and 401(k) Paid Holidays: New Years, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, plus two floating Holidays Responsibilities: Review job tickets and rule-up to determine customer specifications. Operate computer to check and select program from index or to add/modify program as required. Contact quality assurance to obtain approval to run job. Set scale to weigh product in proper amounts. Jog product as required to insure proper line up. Check for all errors in printing such as color, dog-ears, register and scum. Set cutter side guides. Load product into cutter and cut. Check cutting operation and make adjustments as required to maintain specifications. Check with Folder Operators and Overwrap Operators as necessary to insure cutting meets folding and wrapping requirements. Check knife performance during operations to assure clean cuts. Change knife blades when necessary using a variety of hand tools and knife changing facility. Operate hand or pallet truck to move finished product to staging area and/or to bring in empty skids, pallets, box, and carton supplies from storage areas. Complete load tags, tally sheets and final job tickets. Complete daily production sheets and record each job run, job number, customer name and any specifics pertaining to the job. Train new Cutter Operators and helpers as necessary in jogging and cutting operations. Maintain area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition. Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); plus 1 to 2 years of experience on a variety of cutting operations.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
