About The Position

BJC HealthCare is seeking a Customer Service Rep I to handle customer service and problem-solving related to billing. This position will involve taking calls throughout the day regarding financial assistance applications. The role serves as an advocate for patients and their families, providing communication support, guidance, interpretation, and education on billing, claim status, and various customer-related inquiries. The representative will also assist patients with outstanding balances, resolving debit and credit account balances based on information gathered from insurers, physicians, hospital personnel, governmental agencies, and patients.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience with customer service and problem solving

Responsibilities

  • Processes agency vendor requests, financial assistance applications, bankruptcy notifications, risk issues, attorney requests and other documents necessary to remediate patient account.
  • Serves as a back-up contact for incoming customer inquires; utilizes customer service skills and tools to identify, research and resolve customer inquiries.
  • Reviews patients account history to ensure all payors have been billed and validates the accuracy of payments and adjustments; updates patient account demographics, insurance and other information as applicable; documents all actions taken on patient accounts.
  • Counsels patients on available payment options, such as payment arrangements, financial assistance, and various local, state and federal agencies which may be available to assist with the funding of health care services.
  • Reviews processing trends and identifies issues; provides feedback and suggestions to improve service levels.
