About The Position

The Customer Service Associate (CSA) plays a crucial role in patient registration and intake, ensuring accurate collection and verification of patient demographics, insurance information, and medical history. This role also involves providing excellent customer service and navigation assistance within the Sentara Obici facility, managing department schedules, booking appointments, and handling administrative tasks such as answering phones and managing patient paperwork. Additionally, the CSA will assist with billing and payment inquiries.

Requirements

  • Strong computer keyboarding skills
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities
  • Capacity to remain calm and empathetic in a fast-paced hospital environment
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with health insurance plans
  • Prior experience with medical terminology
  • Prior experience with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems
  • Some college coursework is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Accurately collect and verify patient demographics, insurance information, and medical history upon arrival.
  • Greet patients and visitors, answer questions, provide directions throughout the Sentara Obici facility, and assist with wayfinding.
  • Manage department schedules, book appointments, and assist with pre-authorization processes when necessary.
  • Answer and route incoming phone calls, maintain orderly waiting areas, and manage patient paperwork with high attention to detail.
  • Assist with updating billing information, setting up payment plans, and answering general inquiries regarding account balances.
