About The Position

Under general and limited supervision, performs a wide variety of custodial maintenance duties to provide a clean, orderly, and safe environment in public buildings. Performs cleaning, housekeeping, and light maintenance of assigned spaces. This position does not supervise other employees. The role requires custodial knowledge and skills, the ability to maintain a cleaning schedule with minimal supervision, and the ability to follow oral and written instructions. Essential duties involve traveling between sites and working around noise, outdoors, vibration, confined spaces, chemicals, and mechanical and electrical hazards. The position has a medium overall strength demand, including lifting up to 50 pounds and carrying up to 25 pounds.

Requirements

Formal or informal education or training that ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
A current valid Texas driver’s license, the ability to obtain one within 90 days of employment, or a military waiver.
Knowledge of tools, chemicals, materials, methods, and best practices used in custodial operations.
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions in custodial operations.
Knowledge of the proper use and care of tools, materials, and equipment used in custodial operations.
Ability to operate custodial equipment, including vacuum cleaners, carpet machines, and buffers.
Ability to maintain a cleaning schedule and work with minimal supervision.
Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with internal and external contacts.

Responsibilities

Sweep, vacuum, and mop floors.
Dust and clean offices and other work areas.
Collect and remove waste.
Clean and restock restrooms.
Strip and wax floors.
Move or lift furniture, boxes, and other materials.
Open and close facilities for use and secure them at closing.
Operate carpet extractor machines and buffers to polish floors.
Operate a City or personal vehicle to travel between City facilities and complete assigned work.
Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
