About The Position

The Custodian assists with daily school cleaning and may perform minor maintenance repairs. Duties include cleaning bathrooms and floors, preparing for and cleaning up after events, keeping the grounds clean and safe, and potentially assisting with fire drills and evacuation routes. Some experience is preferred but is not necessary.

Requirements

• Previous experience as a Custodian is preferred, but not necessary.
• Ability to lift, push, and/or pull objects weighing approximately 50 pounds.
• Ability to stand for up to six continuous hours.
• Ability to stand, stoop, reach, and bend; mobility of arms to reach; and dexterity of hands to grasp and manipulate large and small objects.
• Ability to smell, taste, and feel to determine the quality of food products.
• Ability to work with caustic and non-caustic chemicals.
• Ability to work with frequent interruption and supervise a variety of tasks.
• Ability to work around loud noise and in indoor and hot environments.

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent coursework preferred.
• Previous experience as a Custodian preferred.

Responsibilities

• Keep the building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas, neat and clean.
• Check daily that exit doors are open and panic bolts are functioning during building occupancy.
• Sweep classrooms daily and dust furniture.
• Clean corridors after school each day.
• Scrub, hose down, and disinfect toilet floors daily; clean sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily.
• Keep the grounds free from rubbish.
• Clean chalkboards at least once a week.
• Promptly report major repairs needed to the Facilities Coordinator and/or Facilities Manager.
• Clean before and after events and potentially assist with fire drills and evacuation routes.
