About The Position

The Custodian keeps the building clean and orderly, performing heavy cleaning duties such as cleaning floors, shampooing rugs, washing walls and glass, and removing rubbish. The position may include routine maintenance activities and notifying management when repairs are needed. The Custodian follows appropriate safety practices and procedures while working, helps set up and tear down programs, events, and facility rentals, and collaborates with other departments to deliver a high-quality guest experience.

Responsibilities

Clean building surfaces and floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming.
Gather and empty trash.
Service, clean, and supply restrooms.
Clean and polish furniture and fixtures.
Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors using appropriate cleaning tools and products.
Dust furniture, walls, machines, and equipment.
Prepare cleaning solutions according to specifications.
Steam-clean or shampoo carpets.
Strip, seal, finish, and polish floors.
Follow procedures for using chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
Monitor building security and safety, including locking doors after operating hours and checking electrical appliance use for hazards.
Move furniture, equipment, and supplies manually or with hand trucks.
Notify managers about the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems.
Notify management about safety concerns.
Support setup and teardown for programs, events, and facility rentals as required.
Collaborate with Visitor Services and Education departments and assist other departments as required.
Answer guests’ questions, provide directions, and deliver exceptional guest service.
Contribute to a productive and positive environment focused on customer service.
