About The Position

The Custodian is responsible for cleaning and other miscellaneous duties to maintain the building and its facilities in a healthy and sanitary manner. The role involves regular work with cleaning products and may include cleaning blood, saliva, and other bodily fluids. It is physically demanding, with most work time spent standing, walking, sweeping, and mopping, as well as some lifting, stretching, and bending.

Requirements

• High school education and 1 year of experience, as stated in the qualifications.
• Knowledge of standard cleaning procedures and chemicals.
• Ability to read and understand chemical labels and instructions.
• Ability to count and report supply inventory.
• Ability to work under minimal supervision.
• Ability to make decisions and solve problems.
• Time-management ability.
• Flexibility and sound work ethics.
• Ability to perform physically demanding work involving prolonged standing and walking, sweeping and mopping, some lifting, stretching, and bending.
• Ability to work safely with cleaning products and handle cleanup of bodily fluids.

Responsibilities

• Wash and disinfect washroom floors, toilets, sinks, fixtures, and mirrors.
• Replenish toilet tissue and hand soap as needed.
• Empty waste baskets and garbage cans.
• Clean entrances and exits, including floors, glass, doors, and hardware.
• Clean offices and conference rooms and dust furniture and fixtures as needed.
• Damp mop hard floors and vacuum carpeted areas.
• Clean break rooms and office kitchen areas, including sinks and counters.
• Clean and disinfect water fountains.
• Broom sweep and mop stairs and sweep, scrub, and mop the back stairwell.
• Spot-clean walls and toilet partitions.
• Wash and buff floors using a floor polisher.
• Remove marks from walls, doors, hardware, and glass.
• Keep the outside area near exits clear of cans, paper, and other debris.
• Maintain storage areas, cleaning equipment, materials, and supplies.
• Restock supplies.
• Report minor maintenance repairs, damages, and acts of vandalism.
• Perform other related duties as required.
