About The Position

The description of tasks is not intended to outline every last detail of the custodian’s position. It will serve to give a general impression of the duties relating to the job.

Requirements

  • SKILLS are required to perform multiple, non-technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.
  • Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: Using custodial supplies.
  • KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math; read and follow instructions; and understand multi-step written and oral instructions.
  • Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: Knowledge of custodial supplies; knowledge of cleaning methods and techniques.
  • ABILITY is required to schedule activities; gather and/or collate data; and consider a variety of factors when using equipment.
  • Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods.
  • Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with a variety of data; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming.
  • Service, clean, or supply restrooms.
  • Clean windows, glass partitions, or mirrors, using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, or squeegees.
  • Gather and empty trash.
  • Notify principal concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems.
  • Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
  • Dust furniture, walls, machines, or equipment.
  • Clean and polish furniture and fixtures.
  • Requisition supplies or equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties.
  • Mix water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications.
  • Move heavy furniture, equipment, or supplies, either manually or by using hand trucks.
  • Set up, arrange, or remove decorations, tables, chairs, ladders, or scaffolding to prepare facilities for events, such as banquets or meetings.
  • Clean laboratory equipment, such as glassware or metal instruments, using solvents, brushes, rags, or power cleaning equipment.
