About The Position

The Custodian performs assigned custodial tasks at a designated job location. Duties include general cleaning of restrooms, offices, cafeterias, sales floors, and other areas as assigned, as well as buffing, scrubbing, vacuuming, sweeping, and mopping. The role uses equipment such as scrubbers, extractors, and buffers. The Custodian completes work according to customer requests, the defined scope of work, published schedules, and directions from a Lead Custodian or Supervisor. Work must follow company and safety guidelines, including policies related to customer service, attire, working conditions, hours, and timekeeping. The position may involve nights, early mornings, weekends, and holidays. Local travel using a personal vehicle may be required approximately 10% of the time.

Requirements

Basic knowledge of custodial duties and janitorial responsibilities.
Knowledge of cleaning equipment and methods, including vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and applying finishes to different flooring materials.
Knowledge of cleaning techniques and processes and of the qualities and uses of cleaning, sanitizing, stripping, and waxing compounds.
Experience cleaning and sanitizing washrooms.
Ability to follow directions and work within guidelines.
Ability to read, understand, and follow units of measure on product labels.
Ability to demonstrate workplace safety, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, use appropriate safety equipment, and report unsafe conditions to a Supervisor.
Satisfactory personal appearance and hygiene according to company guidelines.
Ability to read and communicate in English.
Ability to operate small power tools.
Ability to move, lift, carry, pull, or push objects or materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
Ability to perform repetitive motions, including bending, twisting, pushing, pulling, reaching, climbing, and squatting.
Ability to stoop, kneel, crawl, bend, turn, and reach into areas that may not be fully air conditioned.
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, including climbing and descending stairwells and ladders.
Ability to work independently and in stressful environments.
Availability for work that may include nights, early mornings, weekends, and holidays.
Optional local-area travel using a personal vehicle, approximately 10% of the time.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or equivalent.
1–2 years of experience in custodial, janitorial, or cleaning services.
Ability to maintain janitor closets in a clean, organized, and safe manner in accordance with company guidelines and regulations.

Responsibilities

Perform general custodial tasks as directed by a Lead Custodian or Supervisor.
Safely use floor machines for buffing, stripping, waxing, vacuuming, and carpet cleaning according to proper usage and the agreed schedule.
Perform janitorial tasks within the defined scope of work and customer requests, following published schedules and guidelines.
Empty wastebaskets and replace liners as needed.
Dust and clean office furniture, desks, and tables.
Vacuum carpeting and spot-clean soiled areas when needed.
Clean and sanitize toilets, basins, and urinals; clean counters, mirrors, and fixtures.
Sweep and damp-mop floors with disinfectant; spot-clean walls, partitions, and doors.
Refill restroom dispensers as needed.
Wipe and clean table tops, chairs, vending machines, appliances, and sinks; damp-mop tile floors.
Follow company policies and procedures regarding safety, customer service, attire, working conditions, hours, and timekeeping.
Wear the required uniform at designated worksites.
Follow oral and written instructions and work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Attend periodic training and safety meetings.
Maintain janitorial equipment in a clean, safe, and operable condition.
Maintain regular, consistent, and predictable attendance.
