About The Position

The Custodian performs custodial tasks at the assigned job location, including cleaning restrooms, offices, cafeterias, sales floors, and other areas as assigned. Duties include basic vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, buffing, scrubbing, and using equipment such as scrubbers, extractors, and buffers. Work is performed according to the defined scope, published schedules, customer requests, and company and safety guidelines. The position may involve nights, early mornings, weekends, and holidays. The Custodian follows oral and written instructions, works independently and with a team, and attends periodic training and safety meetings. Optional local-area travel using a personal vehicle is approximately 10% of the time, with the amount varying.

Requirements

Basic knowledge of custodial duties and janitorial responsibilities.
Knowledge of cleaning equipment and methods, including vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and applying finishes to different flooring materials.
Knowledge of cleaning techniques and processes.
Knowledge of the qualities and uses of cleaning, sanitizing, stripping, and waxing compounds.
Experience cleaning and sanitizing washrooms.
Ability to follow workplace safety rules, use appropriate safety equipment, practice safe work habits, and report unsafe conditions to a Supervisor.
Ability to follow directions and work within guidelines.
Ability to read, understand, and follow units of measure on product labels.
Satisfactory personal appearance and hygiene according to company guidelines.
Ability to read and communicate in English.
Ability to work independently and in a team, including in stressful environments.
Regular, consistent, and predictable attendance.
Ability to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push objects or materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
Ability to perform repetitive movements such as bending, twisting, pushing, pulling, reaching, climbing, and squatting.
Ability to operate small power tools.
Ability to stoop, kneel, crawl, bend, turn, and reach into areas that are not fully air conditioned.
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, including climbing and descending stairwells and ladders.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or equivalent.
One to two years of experience in custodial, janitorial, or cleaning services.
Ability to maintain janitor closets in a clean, organized, and safe manner and in accordance with company guidelines and regulations.

Responsibilities

Perform general custodial tasks as directed by the Lead Custodian or Supervisor.
Safely use floor machines for buffing, stripping, waxing, vacuuming, and carpet cleaning according to proper usage and agreed schedules.
Follow company safety guidelines, policies, procedures, customer service expectations, attire requirements, working-condition rules, and timekeeping procedures.
Complete assignments according to the company schedule, customer expectations, defined scope of work, and applicable guidelines.
Wear the required uniform at designated worksites.
Empty wastebaskets and replace liners as needed.
Dust and clean office furniture, desks, and tables.
Vacuum carpeting and spot-clean soiled areas as needed.
Clean and sanitize toilets, basins, and urinals; clean counters, mirrors, and fixtures.
Sweep and damp-mop floors with disinfectant, and spot-clean walls, partitions, and doors.
Refill restroom dispensers as needed.
Wipe and clean tabletops, chairs, vending machines, and appliances.
Clean sinks and damp-mop tile floors.
Maintain janitorial equipment in a clean, safe, and operable condition.
Attend periodic training and safety meetings.
