About The Position

The Custodian ensures a clean, safe, and well-maintained environment by performing cleaning, light maintenance, and event setup tasks across campus facilities. The role includes maintaining floors, restrooms, and other surfaces; operating cleaning equipment; and handling chemicals safely. The position also supports building security and emergencies, assists with supplies and snow removal, and may use college vehicles for local pickups or drop-offs.

Requirements

• Education: Less than high school education.
• Two years of experience.
• Ability to read, write, and comprehend simple instructions, emails, and memos, and discuss information one-on-one and in small groups.
• Ability to add and subtract numbers using basic units of measurement.
• Ability to follow written, oral, or diagrammed instructions and solve problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Ability to navigate computer applications, read and reply to emails, manage files and applications, find, format, and print documents, and operate common office equipment.
• Ability to interact pleasantly and professionally using appropriate language and body language.
• Physical requirements include frequent standing, walking, climbing, squatting, crouching, kneeling, bending, pushing, pulling, and reaching above the shoulder; some lifting and carrying is required.
• Must be able to work in an indoor environment and occasionally outdoors in weather conditions.

Nice To Haves

• Some custodial experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Clean and maintain LVT, tile, carpet, and concrete flooring.
• Scrub and sanitize restrooms, including sinks, toilets, fixtures, walls, and floors, and restock paper products and soap.
• Clean windows, walls, ceilings, and other surfaces.
• Collect and dispose of trash and recyclables.
• Set up and move furniture and equipment for events.
• Operate and maintain vacuums, carpet shampooers, scrubbers, buffing machines, and other cleaning equipment.
• Handle cleaning chemicals according to safety protocols and use ladders safely.
• Lock and unlock doors to secure assigned buildings.
• Respond to emergencies and assist management as necessary.
• Help direct customers to safe locations during severe weather.
• Unpack and put away supply orders.
• Remove snow from assigned building entrances.
• Use college vehicles for local supply or equipment pickups and drop-offs.
• Replace light bulbs.
