About The Position

The Town of Needham is hiring a Custodian to perform custodial duties supporting maintenance of assigned municipal or school buildings and adjacent grounds, under the general guidance of the Senior Custodian. The position is based in Needham school buildings and offers on-the-job training opportunities. The schedule is 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Mandatory participation in the Town’s Snow and Ice removal program is required. Applicants must have completed four years of high school or equivalent and have at least one year of relevant work experience. Employment is conditional on a CORI check and drug and alcohol screening. Applicants working in a Needham Public School building must also pass a separate CORI check and fingerprint-based national criminal background check.

Responsibilities

Clean and sanitize assigned areas using designated cleaning products, hand tools, and electrically operated buffers, strippers, waxers, vacuum cleaners, and shampooers.
Sweep, wash, wax, and polish floors and stairways; clean and dust furniture; polish conference tables and countertops; empty waste and recycling containers; and clean restrooms.
Maintain landscaping and remove snow at building entrances, stairs, ramps, lawns, and adjacent sidewalks.
Inspect assigned areas for maintenance needs and safety hazards, correcting hazards when appropriate or submitting a work order when additional support is needed.
Maintain appropriate inventory and stock of cleaning supplies, including paper towels, toilet paper, hand soap, and cleaning chemicals.
Provide routine facility security by monitoring hallways, ensuring windows and doors are locked, and setting alarms when leaving the facility.
Participate in the Town’s Snow and Ice removal program.
