About The Position

The Custodian maintains a safe, healthy environment for museum staff, visitors, and guests while helping preserve the history of the USS Lexington CV-16. The position follows a weekly schedule for normal work operations and maintains the approach way, admissions area, tour routes, bathrooms, meeting rooms, berthing compartments, office areas, Hangar Bays, and flight deck.

The Custodian attends monthly safety meetings covering proper equipment and chemical use, assists with special-event setup and cleanup, and places caution signs for visitors when needed. The employee must be able to direct visitors and understand and implement the Lexington’s Safety Program and Heavy Weather Plan. Other duties may be assigned by the LSS Supervisor or Director of Operations.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED certificate.
• At least 18 years of age at the time of hire.
• Reliable transportation to and from the worksite.
• Successful completion of a criminal background investigation.
• Successful completion of a drug screening test.
• Successful completion of a physical examination administered by a licensed medical physician, verifying the applicant’s ability to perform essential job functions.
• Able to stand and use continuous hand, arm, and finger manipulation.
• Able to climb steep stairwells.
• Occasionally able to lift up to 25–50 pounds.
• Vision requirements include clear close and distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the approach way, admissions area, tour routes, bathrooms, meeting rooms, berthing compartments, office areas, Hangar Bays, and flight deck.
• Follow a weekly schedule for normal work operations.
• Attend monthly safety meetings on proper equipment and chemical use.
• Assist Special Events with event settings and cleanup duties.
• Set up caution signs for visitors when needed.
• Direct visitors.
• Understand and implement the Lexington’s Safety Program.
• Understand and implement the Lexington’s Heavy Weather Plan.
• Perform other duties as delegated by the LSS Supervisor or Director of Operations.
